The Edge: Quality repairs from a most reliable source.  Joe Rissin, the quintessential New Yorker, talks very fast and is very proud of his work repairing jewelry from costume to Faberge. Has worked for the British Museum (King Tut exhibit), the Brooklyn Museum, the Guggenheim, and the Jewish Museum, among others. Joe is a gemologist and a platinum-trained jeweler. His wife, Toby, specializes in pearl stringing. He’s known for repairs of antiques, but also repairs eyeglasses, and gives them priority since “they’re a necessity.” Appraisals for $60 to $65 per hour. Gives estimates. Accepts checks from customers he knows. Be prepared to wait at times. Joe pays attention to your detailed requests, no matter how small. No credit cards.  “Quality work. I’ve had to take him things to re-fix when I’ve given them to others to repair.”
